Resort to feature work of five artists

Art Business News, April, 2006

MARATHON, FL -- Singh Hotels and Resorts will feature the work of five celebrated artists from around the country at its flagship Tranquility Bay Beach House Resort in Marathon.

Paintings, sculptures and metalworks will be found throughout the 12-acre, lushly landscaped resort enclave and inside its 87 luxury beach houses. Guests entering the resort's lobby will find several paintings by Bill Brauer. Considered one of the most provocative and influential painters in New England, Brauer is a transplanted New Yorker who has been active both as a teacher and a working artist in Vermont for more than 30 years. His work is noted for its portrayal of "natural, beautiful women with an air of mystery."

Resort guests will note the similarity in style of the sculptures found by Tranquility Bay's tropical lagoon-style swimming pool to those at the entrance to the resort. These are the work of K.S. Radhakrishnan, who is credited with leading a resurgence in the work of the Indian subcontinent. The centerpiece of the collection being assembled at Tranquility Bay is Radhakrishnan's whimsical, "Human Globe," which is positioned at the resort's entrance to greet arriving guests. Four simplified figures interlock to form a sphere, embraced in a dance that seems both rhythmic and floating.

Jean Sylvestre epitomizes the rise of metal art in the little town of Croix-de-Bouquets, just east of Port-au-Prince. A disciple of two of the greatest living Haitian metal artists, Sylvestre's distinctive forms and pieces adorn several porches along Tranquility Bay's majestic waterfront.

For more than 35 years, Sally Carpenter's paintings and photography have appeared in galleries and venues stretching from California to New England and the United Kingdom. Her digital compositions, created specifically for Tranquility Bay, are found inside each of the resort's luxurious beach houses and are derived from original photographs taken to capture the serenity and idyllic nature of this private seaside enclave.

Visitors walking along the pathway from Tranquility Bay's swimming pool to its noted Butterfly Cafe restaurant will notice work by famed New England sculptor Barbara Kaufman. A native of rural New York who came of age in the 1920s, Kaufman lives and works in Woodstock, VT. Her work can be found in the Cincinnati and the Philadelphia Museums of Art, and in many other venues in the United States and abroad. Her pieces and garden sculptures are typically created on a large scale for clay and are robustly designed to withstand the elements. For more information, visit www.singhco.com.
