Art Business News, May, 2001
Artexpo New York wasn't strictly business. The show was also a gathering place for artists to meet their collectors and create new work. Whether molding new sculptures, painting new canvases or even painting directly onto the clothing of willing attendees, creativity was brimming across every aisle. Here are some examples:
Nicole Durand of Nicole Durand Creations garnered a captive audience as she demonstrated her sculpting technique.
Alfred Alexandar Gockel created a colorful new painting in the Fine Art Editions/MAC Fine Art booth along Center Court.
Artist Jesse Powell, son of veteran Colville artist John Powell, was thrilled with the reception of his work.
Artist Marjorie Tomchuck returned to Artexpo for the 23rd year with her cast-paper prints.
Sculptor Alice Riordan created a new day masterpiece in the Meisner Gallery booth.
In the Media Arts booth, the vibrant colors and animated strokes of artist Simon Bull drew crowds to Center Court.
