* Christie's in London recently celebrated a record-breaking, $104-million week and broke six world records for individual artists--the best week the London auction house has had for more than a decade. The most expensive painting sold was at the Impressionist and Modern Art Sale, where Fauve painter Maurice de Vlaminck's "La Seine a Chatou" went under the hammer for $10.1 million (est.

$4 to $5 million). New auction world records were also set for artists Glenn Brown, Thomas Demand, Andreas Gursky, Franz Marc and Pierre Soulages. Sotheby's sale the same week was far weaker, with its top lot going to Leger's "Le siphon" (1924), which was bought by London dealer Ivor Braka just over the top estimate at $3.5 million.
