Art captures singer's brush with death

Art Business News, May, 2005

LOS ANGELES -- A recent celebrity-filled reception was the site of the unveiling of "A Life Restored," a painting by artist Ernie Barnes and commissioned by Grammy-winning recording artist, Kanye West.

Commissioned by West in early 2004, the piece captures his near-death experience from a car accident that inspired hit songs, including his debut single, "Through the Wire."

The 9- x 10-foot painting, which will be displayed on a ceiling of West's Los Angeles home, is filled with angels in what Barnes calls a "celestial celebration of the moment when God said to Kanye, "It's not your time."
