Art Business News, May, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Former running back for the New York lets and Washington Redskins, George Nock is pursuing his passion: sculpture. He retired after playing five years in the NFL and went on to distinguish himself as a sculptor who capture's life's experiences in his original bronze works. Nock recalls that after being drafted by the Jets, he says, "The team would be going over game strategy in the training facility in Shea Stadium and would find me working on preliminary drawings for sculptures."

Nock's admiration of the human form and firsthand knowledge of the feats it can achieve is recognized in the realism of his works. "I knew all the mechanics of the moves--so I was inspired to recreate them in 3-D," he says.

"Often I create ordinary people, for I find that the everyday tasks these people do to be an endless source of inspiration," Nock says. "I strive to portray feelings, body movements, and expressions. Perhaps this is my greatest strength as a sculptor."

Nock has created lifelike sculptures of Satchel Paige, Tiger Woods and Serena Williams. He plans to create replicas of NFL, NBA and MLB players representing milestones in their careers. "I am going to carry sports figures and bobbleheads to a whole new level," Nock beams.
