Gale Kaseguma is an artist known for her imaginative ideas, creative technique and use of color. Since setting up her studio 15 years ago, she has worked extensively as a fine artist, decorative artist and designer. Her long list of decorative-painting projects include interiors for Spike Lee, Wesley Snipes, The Museum of Art and Design, and Universal Studios. Kaseguma has made numerous television appearances, including Good Morning America, where she demonstrated her painting techniques. Most recently, she appeared on "All Year Round" with Katie Brown, and was interviewed on "Sheila Bridges Designer Living" which featured her painting in her studio.
"When creating a painting, I combine the things that I love--color, pattern, and collage," says Kaseguma. "As begin a new piece, I do not have an end in mind. I go where the materials take me. Over time, I have developed an original technique of collaging tissue paper with many layers of paint, translucent glazes and wax. This process allows for unexpected patterns and shapes to emerge from the materials themselves. I build up areas of color, texture and overlays of tissue paper and Japanese rice papers. Often, paintings have hundreds of layers. I try to find a rhythm between the colors and the patterns, the background and the foreground. Paintings are often transformed from one idea into something very different. This process allows me to create from my imagination."
