Three April photography sales at Sotheby's netted the auction house a total of $8.7 million, an amount that exceeded its high estimate of $6.7 million, according to the artdaily.com Web site. Those sales included photographs from a private collection, the Gordon L. Bennett collection of Carleton Watkins' "New Series" photographs of Yosemite, and various other owners' sales.
