ART IN BLOOM

I wanted to respond to your comments on capitalizing on spring fever to boost sales. I recently opened my 32nd one-man show in a floral designer's studio filled with gorgeous displays and fragrant blooms. The combination with the warm spring evening air was a winner for us both! I sold 12 paintings and the owner sold scads of flowers. Patrons spilled out into the street and smiles were everywhere.

All this took place in the Over the Rhine district of Cincinnati which was rocked by riots and violent protests in the preceding weeks. Normally "Final Friday" attracts throngs of people to galleries. This time, fear kept most away and the psychological damage to the district may be long lasting. I hope people will return to the area and support the galleries and businesses.

NEW NAME FOR GICLEE?

It has come to my attention that many users of giclee use terms that are etymologically incorrect. Applying terms like "serigraph" and "lithograph" to giclee prints is misleading. In the interest of accuracy and credibility, I offer the term "Gicleegraph" as an alternative. I am one of the rare French artists supporting giclees, and this is the term I have adopted.

CREDITING "NIGHT VISION"

I'm writing concerning a news release from Art Grange in the May 2001 issue. The statement "technique, developed in Japan" is misleading. For many years, persons now involved with Art Grange were the exclusive distributors of my art in Japan. The technique I developed, called "Night Vision," involves the invisible fluorescent pigments in serigraphy. For a few years, I was their only artist. We parted ways in 1998. Which is why I am concerned to see they are taking credit for developing the technique.
