Dates Set for Art Miami 2002

Art Business News, July, 2001

MIAMI--Art Miami, a modern and contemporary art exhibition, returns to the Miami Beach Convention Center for the 12th year Jan. 4 through Jan. 8, 2002, according to show director Ilana Vardy.

For 2002, Vardy said she plans to recreate the show's mix from 2001, presenting little-known exhibitors showcasing emerging trends alongside leading international dealers, while offering up a large concentration of Latin American art. Currents, a section within the fair devoted exclusively to emerging galleries with little or no exposure in contemporary art fairs, will once again give young dealers the opportunity to feature edgier works.

"Art Miami broke new ground last year and we look forward to building upon our success," said Vardy. "We'll continue to be the leading international fair for important contemporary Latin American art, as well as feature sophisticated special exhibitions and panel discussions that contribute to Art Miami's popularity. We also plan to work more closely with the local cultural institutions to offer them added visibility to the general public."

The 2001 show garnered acclaim from national and international art press and received support from collectors, arts professionals and attendees. The exposition featured cutting-edge installations, a core of established galleries and a strong contingent of young exhibitors--135 exhibitors from 24 countries posted record sales, while close to 40,000 were in attendance throughout the five-day run.

Art Miami 2002 will take place at the Miami Beach Convention Center. For further information, visit www.art-miami.com.
