Macchio Participates in NHL's Cancer Efforts

Art Business News, July, 2001

NEW HYDE PARK, N.Y.--At the request of the National Hockey League, artist Nicholas Macchio donated his efforts to the "Hockey Fights Cancer" fundraising auction held during the NHL's 51st All-Star Weekend in Denver. In addition to memorabilia, the NHL asked Macchio and 11 other artists to create "Visions of Hockey," works of art that were sold in the Hockey Fights Cancer Online Charity Auction and added $25,835 to the record-setting charity donation total of more than $700,000.

Represented by Rhino International Art in New York, Macchio created "St. Nicholas Rink," a nostalgic view of the famed old New York City arena. Macchio is known for his contemporary realist portraits of Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack and Brigite Bardot, among others.
