Kudos to the following ... Akron Art Museum Director Dr. Mitchell Kahan was recently awarded the Ohio Museum Association's (OMA) 2004 Distinguished Museum Professional Award at OMA's annual conference. Now in his 18th year at the museum, Dr. Kahan is the longest-serving director in the Akron Art Museum's history.
During his tenure, he has worked with nine different board presidents and has raised funds to establish three endowment funds for art. He has expanded the museum's collection in size and geographic range, and has instituted a complete overhaul of the museum's visual communications. Most importantly, Dr. Kahan has worked with the trustees to revitalize a long-held vision of growth, resulting in the museum's current building expansion and construction project that will triple the size of the museum. The project is scheduled for completion in 2006.
