Curtis celebrates Birthday & Art exhibition

Art Business News, July, 2005

CARSON, CA--Max Moulding recently participated in the co-sponsorship of Tony Curtis' 80th Birthday Celebration and Fine Art Exhibition, June 24 through 26, which was held at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas. Friends of Curtis, art collectors, Hollywood celebrities and politicians attended the gala.

The world-renowned television and movie star unveiled himself as a fine artist at this celebration. Curtis, whose works have been compared to the French Impressionists Van Gogh, Dufy and Matisse, has been painting for more than 50 years, using brilliant colors to capture the turn-of-the-century styles.

To Curtis, there is not much of a difference between acting and painting, except for "the physical [act]," he explains. "The creative urge gives us the ability to express our feelings. We are all given elements to express ourselves, and they are the gifts that make us all brothers and sisters."

Though painting was just something Curtis did, "never thinking of it as a career," he had trouble juggling the two interests throughout his life. Curtis says he couldn't "split himself," but now "I've grown into myself," he says. "It is a pleasure being able to do both." Currently, he is working on the television show "C.S.I." and attending showings of his art in Las Vegas, where he currently resides.

Max Moulding exclusively provided the frame moulding for the 80 paintings exhibited at the show. A portion of the proceeds went to Shiloh Horse Rescue and Sanctuary, which is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating abused, neglected, injured, unwanted and slaughter-bound horses of all types.
