Kara Castro/Francisco Castro

Art Business News,  July, 2007

Artist couple Kara and Francisco Castro have been creating art together for 17 years. Although their styles are quite different from one another, the couple states that they actually work quite well together. "Our work is so different that there is no way we can really compete with one another, people who love her work usually hate mine, and conversely, people who prefer my work don't pay much attention to hers," Francisco says.

Kara Castro--Watercolorist

Watercolor artist Kara Castro's paintings have earned her several "Best of Show" awards and continually gain her recognition nationwide. She is the recipient of the 2005 California Watercolor Association's Gold Medal Award and has twice been a finalist in the prestigious Art Renewal Center's International Competitions. Her work is represented in galleries throughout the United States. Through her skillful use of watercolors, Kara has created a style that is uniquely her own.

Artist Statement:

"In my paintings, I strive to capture that short moment in time that tells a story, an image that shares an event--significant to others or not--which will never be repeated again. I try to preserve with a paint brush what photographers catch with their lens."

Francisco Castro--Mixed-Media/Assemblage Artist

Although he receives inspiration from both master and contemporary artists, mixed-media artist Francisco Castro finds that his biggest influences have been his own life experiences. Francisco's work has been featured in a number of galleries and has earned him several top awards. It has also been exhibited by invitation at the California state capitol.

Artist Statement:

"I see my work as a sort of visual diary--an expression of emotions and experiences that I can't necessarily share or find a way to put into words. Sometimes I start out with an aesthetic idea for a piece, but my mood or thoughts take it in another direction. The finished product is never what I started out trying to create."
