Warehouse District is New Orleans' New Claim to Fame

Art Business News, Sept, 2001 by Keith Pandolfi

What will perhaps emerge as the true gem of the district, however, is the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, which is scheduled to open in 2003. The museum's permanent collection, courtesy of New Orleans businessman and philanthropist Roger Houston Ogden, will include 1,200 works of art, ranging from 18th-century watercolors to 21st-century photography.

The 67,000-square-foot complex--which is being created in partnership with the University of New Orleans--will also house the Institute for the Study of Southern Art and Culture, a research library and space for traveling exhibits. Aside from the delicious food, ample drink and exhilarating music New Orleans offers year-round, the Ogden will be just one more reason to take some time off from reality and venture into the hazy dreamscapes of the Big Easy.
