Connoisseur's Antiques Fair to debut in New York - show news - Art and Antique Dealers League of America - Brief Article

Art Business News, Sept, 2002

NEW YORK -- The Art and Antique Dealers League of America will present the first-annual Connoisseur's Antiques Fair at the Gramercy Park Armory Nov. 22 to 24. The fair will launch with a gala preview benefit the evening of Nov. 21 organized by St. Vincent's Hospital Manhattan.

The premiere of the League's fair and the St. Vincent's benefit were originally slated for November, 2001 but were postponed when the 69th Regiment Armory was returned to military service following the events of Sept. 11. St. Vincent's Hospital emergency facilities provided essential services for the victims and rescue workers of the tragedy, and the funds raised by the preview will support renovation of the Hospital's Emergency Room.

America's newest major antiques fair presents more than 60 of this country's preeminent galleries and dealers exhibiting masterworks spanning the millennia, from Egyptian, Greek and Roman Antiquities through Medieval and Renaissance works to European, Asian and American masterpieces of the 17th to early 20th centuries. All exhibitors will have met the Art and Antiques Dealers League of America's membership requirements, and the fair will be rigorously vetted for quality and authenticity, according to show officials.

The Art and Antique Dealers league of America traces its origins to January 1927 and today numbers among its members more than 100 galleries from coast to coast, each on the top rank of specialties encompassing every major antiques field.
