Design house incorporates Warhol's illustrations

Art Business News, Sept, 2005

COSTA MESA, CA -- In a two-season agreement with the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Paul Frank Industries (PFI) will produce clothing and accessories showcasing the works and illustrations of Andy Warhol. The clothing and accessory line will be available during the fall and holiday season of 2005 and will include items such as wallets, handbags, belts and belt buckles, tees, fleece and wovens.

"Warhol's creative, anticonformist spirit continues to inspire each generation and I see a lot of this same energy in what Paul Frank Industries is doing," says Michael Hermann of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Warhol created a new type of art that shocked the traditional art world, but he was originally trained as a commercial artist. And PFI has selected these earlier illustrations to incorporate into his designs, including lip prints, bugs and ice cream cones. Price points start at $24 for men's and women's graphic tees and range up to $126 for a vinyl shoulder bag screened with the artist's butterfly images. PFI collections are available at top retail locations worldwide, including Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Macys, Colette (France), Selfridges (London) and Beams (Japan), as well as 15 Paul Frank stores throughout the world.
