Cooked-up open - Postings

Post, Nov, 2003

ATLANTA -- Turner Studios recently whipped up a show open, as well as promos, for the new Southern cooking show Home Plate, which launched on Turner South this fall. Hosted by chef Marvin Woods, the show features traditional southern cuisine with a contemporary style and healthy flair.

The Turner Studios (www.turnerstudios.com) design department aimed at capturing the southern flavor of Home Plate by incorporating square 2D graphic elements, painted with a soft color palette, and shots of fruits and vegetables on a white backplate. The design evolved into 3D ceramic kitchen tiles. Washed out images of old buildings throughout the package added to the southern style, while the fruits, vegetables and white background maintained the healthy, contemporary look and feel.

The graphics package was designed in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, then composited using Discreet's Inferno. The show itself was shot with three Sony D35 cameras with wide-angle lenses, as well as an overhead Image-Cam for the "in the pot" shots. Editing was performed on an Avid Symphony system. A Digidesign ProTools|HD system was used for sound design, editing and mixing, also done at Turner.
