NEW YORK -- Thwak's Tony Verderosa recently completed work on the new theme song for the NBA's Indiana Pacers out of Caldwell Van Riper/Marc in Indianapolis. The track is featured in two :60 and :30 television spots promoting the basketball team, as well as during the Pacers' team introductions.
Verderosa says the percussive soundtrack was derived from an existing composition he created, and features a high-energy, techno, dance-oriented-theme. Sound effects hits were added to accentuate the downgraded video footage treatment.
Verderosa recalled the master session file, which was archived on a CD-R. He then used a combination of Yamaha's RS7000 Groovebox and Steinberg Cubase VST to finesse the track to picture.

Verderosa takes an interesting approach to creating his tracks, using a Yamaha DTXtreme IIS sampling electronic drum system and Motif synthesizer/keyboard MIDI controller. Mixes are accomplished using a 96 kHz Yamaha 02R. Marshall Grupp of Sound Lounge in Manhattan provided a stereo mix of the effects and client-needed tracks.
In related news, Thwak! scored the feature film Analyze That. Thwak's Zack Danziger (Ocean's Eleven) handled drums and percussion on the project while composer/DJ David Holmes contributed break-beat-oriented/retro/electronic styles. Thwak! artist/bass player Tim Lefebvre; who plays with the The Caroline Rhea Show band, also contributed to the project.
