LOS ANGELES -- Union Editorial's LA studio provided editing and finishing services on a national campaign for the Albertson's chain of grocery and pharmacy stores, starring actress Patricia Heaton from Everybody Loves Raymond. The spots were captured on 35mm on location at two Albertson's stores. Exteriors were shot to look as though someone was jogging by the store with a hand-held camera.

The spots were offlined by Union (www.unioneditorial.com) editor Ira Klein on an Avid Adrenaline. This allowed the client to get a good idea of what the completed spots would look like when finished in Avid|DS.

According to Union's director of finishing, Todd lorio, when the online began there were numerous opportunities to fine tune the edit to work with the actual composited shots. DS allowed them to dig down to the elements of a composite and trim or swap them out entirely.
Part of lorio's task for creating the spots was to clean up the storefront shots and create signs that would serve the national market. Within DS, they were able to build one set-up and use it for all of the different signs. No markers were created in production to prepare for this.
Union Editorial is taking a similar approach for spots they're creating for Kia automobiles--replacing car colors, tail lights, headlights and other features, using the Adrenaline and Avid|DS compositing tools.
