Industry: Email Alert RSS FeedMedia.net transfers footage for Lemony Snicket's
Post, Dec, 2004
LOS ANGELES -- Paramount Pictures' and DreamWorks Pictures' Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events used Media.net (www.media.net) live video collaboration and video conferencing services to facilitate visual effects creation between locations in Santa Monica, San Rafael, and Martha's Vineyard.
When San Rafael-based Industrial Light & Magic was working on visual effects for the director's cut, director Brad Silberling was working on the edit in Martha's Vineyard, MA. To enable ILM to hold review sessions with Silberling, Media.net installed a solution that included satellite technology to deliver its live video collaboration service at the temporary cutting room. With this service, Silberling and ILM were able to view the same live video simultaneously at both locations, and interact in realtime, enhancing the collaborative experience without the need for travel.

Tom Peitzman, Lemony Snicket's visual effects producer, says, "If we didn't have the Media.net solution, ILM would have had to make tapes and Fed Ex them to Martha's Vineyard, then they would have gotten on the phone with Brad and tried to explain what he was looking at. With Media.net, we were all looking at the same shots in realtime. It's so much easier to be able to say, 'See that up in the corner on frame 32? Fix that.' It eliminated days of shipping delays and a lot of frustration."
Cliff Plumer, CTO at ILM, adds, "With Media.net, our clients are an extension of our network. Our production teams can easily collaborate with clients anywhere in the world. The quicker our crew can receive direction, the more efficiently we can operate, which results in savings to our clients."
