PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Hewlett-Packard has introduced two new Pentium 4 workstations designed for 20 and 3D graphics work. The x1100 promises the performance of a workstation at a PC price, incorporating double data rate memory comparable to higher-cost RDRAM systems. The HP x2100 uses a new integrated chip processing technology to create a powerful uniprocessor solution.
Both systems feature the latest Intel processor that supports up to 2.2GHz and twice the L2 cache (512K). The extra cache size results in performance increases of up to 35 percent. The workstations also come pre-loaded with Windows 2000 Professional and support Windows NT 4.0. Users have their choice of 2D or 3D graphics cards, starting with the Matrox G450 card. For entry-level 3D, HP offers the NVidia Quadro2 EX graphics card. The mid-range solution is the new ATI Fire GL 8800 graphics card featuring 128MB of graphics memory, doubling the previous mid-range offering.
