MetaFilms' film scanning, recording solution - Products - Brief Article - Product Announcement

Post, March, 2002

CULVER CITY, Calif. -- MetaFilm (www.metafilmcorp.com) is offering a family of integrated solutions for scanning film to high definition and recording back to film. The company's MetaScan 2000 CCD scanner runs at 6/fps. and offers two simultaneous digital outputs to disk: 2K RGB 30-bit color in the Cineon DPX format and 1920-by-1080 HDTV YUV 4:2:2 16-bit color.

A new edit-mode function scans 24 fps RGB 24-bit color direct to low rez AVI files which are immediately accessible to an offline system. Edit-mode allows editors to rough cut the selects that they want scanned at high definition. MetaScan then automatically scans at high definition, just the clips defined in the EDL.

MetaFilm digital film recorders are PC-based systems that drive up to four independent recording heads, each head capable of running at five seconds/frame depending on format and film stock. A new model of MetaFilm will be launched at NAB and will offer a five times speed improvement, exposing 2K images in under a second.

MetaBank is a Fibre Channel SAN system providing a high performance central image store for the integrated system. Scanned images are immediately available to third-party systems on a SAN.

The new MetaVision 2K serves as an inexpensive HDTV projector from a range of inputs.
