Sony to highlight migration to HD at NAB

Post, March, 2005

PARK RIDGE, NJ -- Sony (http://bssc.sel.sony.com) brings its "HD Highway" theme to this year's NAB show in Las Vegas, with demonstrations focusing on current and future high definition products and technologies, and the roads customers can take to migrate from their standard definition infrastructures to HD-based operations.

"We believe Sony can provide the right roadmap for [customers] from no matter where they are starting," says Alec Shapiro, senior VP of Sony Electronics' broadcast and production systems division. "We're committed to helping customers maximize the SD investments they've made in Sony products and systems while providing them with a choice of directions they can take into the HD future."

Sony has revamped existing SD and HD product lines with new products featuring 24p HD production capability and built-in upconverters.

Products on display include components of an HDV workflow, such as the HVR-ZIU camcorder and HVR-M10UVTR. These products began shipping to resellers in February and Sony expects to deliver 6,000 units of HDV products in the US before the opening of NAB in mid-April.

Also on display will be a technology demo of an HD version of Sony's XDCAM professional disc system. In addition, Sony has plans to display enhanced versions of its HDVTRs.
