Spank! Leaving its mark - Audio Today & Tomorrow - Spank! Music & Sound Design is profiled

Post, April, 2003 by Matthew Armstrong

A SPOT THING

While other commercial music production companies have sought to diversify its client base, Spank has stuck with only commercial clients, even though it could easily lure television and feature film clients. Most of the composers and sound designers work on TV and film projects in their spare time but the company doesn't envision expanding into these areas in the near future.

"Unless it started as a Spank project, everybody here is free to do their own thing," explains Allan. "It's good, it keeps us all fresh. And it's good for Spank from a publicity standpoint when Tim [Gedemer] works on a feature like U-571 and wins an Academy Award for it. How many commercial houses have a sound designer that has won an Academy Award?"
