CULVER CITY, CA -- Sony Pictures Digital Networks (www.sonypictures.com) will be at the Sony booth at NAB, showing off the latest release of its Vegas nonlinear editing software. The company acquired the software tool from Sonic Foundry last August and has made a number of enhancements to the Windows XP/2000-based application in order to gear it more toward the professional video space.
In addition to a customizable interface and an automatable control surface, Vegas 5 includes two render-only rendering licenses allowing users to render projects offline. The tool allows for 5.1 surround mixing and can easily fold down multichannel mixes to stereo or mono releases without the need for remixing. A new import filter recognizes Flash files in their native format. Vegas 5 also features improved MPEG-2 support.
