MARLBORO, MA -- Media 100 (www.media100.com) is developing a new HD/SD nonlinear editing system based on its HDX technology. The company is still deciding on whether or not the system will be a boards and software release, building on its Media I OOi system, or if it will be a turnkey solution. The turnkey Media 100 iHD system would cost under $20,000, while the components-only release would cost below $10,000.

Currently, Media 100 has plans to develop the system on the OS X platform. It would consider other platforms in the future as well, but VP of corporate communications Mike Savello points out that approximately 80 percent of its products are currently Mac based. The initial release would support all but the 24p HD format Savello says the Media 100 i timeline was built to work at 29.97 (NTSC) and 25p (PAL) frames per second, though 24, 23.976, 59.94 and 50/720p support could also be added in the future.
In related news, Media 100 recently sold its 200th 844/X 10-bit nonlinear editing/compositing system. The unit was purchased by New Orleans' Powerplant, which has already used the new system to complete work for Cox Cable.
