JVC intros HD/SD-switchable camcorder

WAYNE, NJ -- At NAB, JVC (www.pro.jvc.com) showed a prototype of a new three-chip/HD/SD switchable camcorder.

JVC will use 2/3-inch CMOS imagers each with a native resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels. The new chips produce higher image quality with far lower power consumption than conventional CCDs and are easily adaptable to various scanning rates, including 720p and 1080i. The new camera will also include a built-in MPEG-2 encoder capable of providing high-quality, band-width efficient recordings of native HD.

The camcorder will use the new HDV recording format capable of HD recording continuously up to 276 minutes on a full-size DV tape. It will also records 24p.
