Sony Pictures adds Neve 88R to stage - Post News - Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc - Brief Article

Post, June, 2003

CULVER CITY, CA - Sony Pictures Entertainment (www.sonypictures.com) has purchased a 96-channel Neve 88R console with Scoring Panel for its scoring stage. The new console is scheduled for installation in September and will be used for scoring feature films and television shows, as well as for traditional music sessions.

Sony Pictures' Scoring Stage is one of the largest motion picture scoring venues in the world, measuring 93 feet wide, 82 feet deep and 33 feet high. Within the last 10 years, the 59 x 42-foot control/machine room was completely renovated. The main scoring or studio area of the stage has remained unchanged since the I 930s to preserve its revered acoustics and unique ambience.

The stage has been the site of hundreds of legendary film scores, including The Wizard of Oz (1939, Herbert Stothart); Gone With the Wind (1939, Max Steiner); Ben Hur (1959, Miklos Rozsa); and Lawrence of Arabia (1962, Maurice Jarre).

More recently, the sony scoring stage has been used on the feature films Catch Me If You Con, Road To Perdition, Spider-Man and Minority Report

"Our V Series Neve has served us well for the last five years but today's demands in film scoring require more inputs, several 5.1 simultaneous mixes or stems and a very versatile monitoring system' says Mark Koffman, senior VP of engineering for Sony Pictures post production facilities. "AMS Neve has met these challenges by customizing the 88R with a new film scoring center section. We're already well acquainted with Encore automation, so the transition to the 88R will be very easy."
