Matzo and Metal

Post, June, 2005

NEW YORK -- Hornet (www.hornetinc.com) created the :30 open for Matzo and Metal, a program that aired on VH1 Classics in conjunction with the Passover holiday. The show was hosted by Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider and featured Jewish members of '80s hair bands coming together to celebrate Passover.

Directed by Aaron Stewart, the animated open combines the 2D look of children's arts and crafts with an original heavy metal track detailing the story of Passover. Real objects, such as google eyes, popsicle sticks, sand and pom-poms were combined with digital imagery to create the sequence. The studio used a combination of Adobe's Illustrator, Photoshop and After Effects, along with Macromedia Flash to create the animation.

Stewart brought in friend David Stein to write the original lyrics. The soundtrack was created by Compound, with Tony Vincent handling the vocals and Scott Pittinsky and Xandy Barry producing the sound design.
