Post, July, 2004
DETROIT -- Doug Cheek, president/CEO of GTN (www.gtninc.com) in Oak Park, has orchestrated a management buyout of the post facility making him its principal shareholder. The studio was previously owned by Joan Binkow, who is retiring. Cheek has spent the past 22 years helping to build GTN, starting in 1982 as a production manager and working his way up.
GTN offers telecine, editing, compositing, CGI, visual effects, audio post, sound stages, distribution and digital asset management. Distribution and asset management, says Cheek, are two areas that represent both opportunity and consistent growth.

GTN developed the software front-end to its proprietary digital asset management system, CARS (Content Archive Retrieval System), which operates on a high-speed managed network from Savvis' Wam! Net. The CARS service is already being used by agency clients and advertisers in Detroit.
On his decision to acquire the studio, Cheek says, "I feel there is a tremendous amount of value to what we are doing at GTN. That makes for a very good business model."
