Post, August, 2003
LONDON -- Extreme Music's (www.extrememusic.com) search for a new production music superstar is over. Tobias Marberger, a 28-year-old composer from Sweden, has become the first ever Extreme Idol.
The competition to find new talent was launched by Extreme Music in December 2002. More than 300 composers sent in a track for the competition and a panel of experts including film composer Hans Zimmer and Michelle Curran of Amber Music selected a short-list of 50. Post readers were then invited to listen to the top 50 on the Extreme Music website, and vote online for their favorite track, and their Extreme Idol.

Extreme's creative director Dolph Taylor was also on the judging panel: "We received a huge amount of really high quality tracks, the standard was much higher than we had anticipated. But the response on the Web site was phenomenal. We had more than 10,000 votes, and Tobias' track received a staggering 22 percent of those votes. It shows how that piece of music stands out from the rest. It's great when you hear a track that grabs you."
As an in-house composer at Edit House, in Gothenburg, Sweden, Marberger has written theme tunes for several Swedish TV shows, including "Make My Day" and "The Mole." The winning track will be released on an Extreme album along with the next 19 best entries as voted by Post readers. Marberger also wins 2 days at the famous Abbey Road studios in London to work on one of his tracks for Extreme.
