Ametek Completes Metal Powder Plant Expansion - Ametek Specialty Metal Products - Brief Article

Automotive Finishing, Winter, 2000

Ametek Specialty Metal Products, Eighty Four, PA, has completed a $1.75 million expansion of its powder metal manufacturing facility. The expansion adds a second production line for Ametek's Motor Vehicle Series (MVS [TM]) 400 high quality metal powders, increasing the capacity for the stainless steel and high alloy metal powders by 30%.

The additional capacity allows the company to remain a key supplier of stainless steel powder and to respond effectively to the fast-growing automotive parts market. It has gained increased recognition within the automotive industry as manufacturers specify stainless steel and other high alloy powders for critical parts, where the benefits of metal powder metallurgy component fabrication is cost effective versus other part making techniques. Demand for stainless steel powder for automotive applications has grown considerably in recent years, especially for passenger car exhaust system flanges and camshaft lobes for sport utility vehicles.
