Corrosion Inhibitors - Brief Article

Automotive Finishing, Winter, 2000

These environmentally friendly water soluble rust inhibitors are for "in-house" protection against corrosion. These four products are non-oily, non-measurable films that preserve the original luster or brightness of the metal surface. All are used at economical, low concentrations--typically 1-5% by volume. They can be heated slightly to facilitate drying if desired.

The products include Heatbath 1438, a fast-drying, nitrite-free product engineered for use in the final rinse after plating, cleaning, pickling, phosphating and blackening. Heatbath 1565, for steel and cast iron, was created for maximum paint compatibility. Heatbath 1567 offers excellent corrosion protection for ferrous products between machining operations and following vibratory finishing. The fourth product in the series, Pen Tek, was formulated specifically for use over black oxide finishes. It is amine-free and produces a lustrous, hard, non-tacky surface that resists both humidity and fingerprinting.
