Melody Guy was recently named senior editor of Ballantine Books. Guy joined Random House in 1997 as publishing manager. In 2000, she helped launch Villard's Strivers Row imprint that focuses on African American titles, and served as its editor for the past three years. Along with her dudes at Strivers Row, Guy becomes responsible for the One World imprint that focuses on multicultural titles of African American, Asian, Latino and Native American interest.

Melody has experienced success with several of her Strivers Row titles including Essence best-sellers Sittin' in the Front Pew (Parry "Ebony Satin" Brown), Hand-Me-Down-Heartache (Tajuana "TJ" Butler), No More Mr. Nice Guy (C. Kelly Robinson). Some of her other titles include Shades of Jade (Gloria Mallette), Married But Still Looking (Travis Hunter), Neva Hafta (Edwardo Jackson), Chocolate Sangria (Tracy Price-Thompson), and The Dying Ground (Nichelle Tramble).
