Young ARTIST - Brief Article

Arts & Activities,  Sept, 2001  by Ryan Mauskopf

Ever since I was 4 years old, I've loved to draw. I even remember my first picture, [which] got me into drawing. It was a dinosaur, colored in crayons. I still remember proudly hanging it on my door.

The one thing I can really think of that helped me get started with drawing were the kits made by cartoonist Bruce Blitz. And from there, through the years, without classes or help, I've developed many different techniques. Without even knowing, I "make up" techniques, like shadow/shading, that I don't know are already invented, just because I think that they may help my drawing look good. It's really weird, but it helps.

Over all, I draw because it's fun. I enjoy it, and that, to me, is really what counts. I can create anything in my imagination, and then bring it to life. And I have my mom and my dad to thank for that--always supporting me. Without them, my whole dream would be a minefield. And I'm very thankful for that.
