Topic: RSS FeedSchool's Out: Self-Taught Artists - Video Recording Review
Arts & Activities, Sept, 2002
Video/28 min./$39.95. Level: Middle School and Above. L & S Video Inc., 45 Stornowaye, Chappaqua, NY 10514, (914) 238-9366.
Three self-taught artists are featured in this delightful and intriguing video. Sometimes called folk artists, primitive artists or naive artists, these inspired individuals never had formal art training; they simply create paintings because they were innately compelled to do so. Each artist's work is different, but each creates with a purity of expression that is unique. Numerous examples of each artist's work are seen along with an abundance of commentary. Included are Grandma Moses, Bill Traylor and William Hawkins.--B.H. For information about this program, circle No. 391 on the Reader Service Card.
