Eight Posters/Teacher's Guide/$49. Level: Middle School and Above. Crystal Productions, P.O. Box 2159, Glenview, IL 60025, (800) 255-8629.
Part of the "Art Chart Poster Series," Art Styles contains eight 18" x 24" posters printed in vibrant colors on heavy card stock with a protective coating and holes for hanging. Each poster provides abundant and concise information, both verbal and visual, which introduces students to eight major art styles throughout the centuries. One important artwork that represents that style is highlighted on each poster, along with four smaller reproductions with short explanatory captions and a timeline.
Art Styles: Set 1 begins with Romanesque and continues through Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism/Romanticism, Realism, Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. The Teacher's Guide provides an overview of each art style, along with activities related to that style and a list of other notable artists. Highly recommended for both art and history classes.--B.H.
