The Fine Artist's Guide To Marketing And Self-Promotion. - Review - book review

Arts & Activities, Oct, 2000 by I.E.J.

[B] THE FINE ARTIST'S GUIDE TO MARKETING AND SELF-PROMOTION (1996; $18.95), by Julius Vitali. Allworth Press, 10 East 23 St., New York, NY 0010.

Hope springs eternal in beginning artists ready to launch themselves in their careers. Julius Vitali anticipates many questions and the need for support of beginning artists. He is realistic and frank. The thrust of Vitali's strategies is his advice to beginners that they learn how to present themselves in a brief interview or to write a statement about their work that "sells." He centers the reader's attention on the importance of having a personal aesthetic philosophy. Without this foundation, he believes, the beginner's art will not be taken seriously. While much of his advice is common sense, he is knowledgeable about the field and covers myriad strategies necessary for success in the art profession.
