These new videotapes in the "Art Is ..." series feature the popular artist, educator and prolific author, Gerald F. Brommer, as he demonstrates the medium of watercolor for beginning students. In Vol. 1, he emphasizies watercolor's transparency and the kinds of brushes, paper and palettes to use. Then he shows the viewer how to create washes and apply them on the paper--wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry. He expands on these by showing us how to use a dry brush or tissue to blot up certain areas, scratch into them with a paper clip, and so on. He quickly executes several small paintings using these techniques. In the second volume, he shows how to use a dry brush to create textures, how to use glazes to reinforce color, and then includes experimental "non-painting" tools and materials. A very helpful and highly motivating set. For information about this program, circle No. 396 on the Reader Service Card.
