Arts & Activities, Nov, 2002 by Gigi D'Ambrosio
I've been drawing since I could walk. I love horses and art. If I'm not drawing, I'm horseback riding or sleeping. I was lucky to win several art awards, like first place in the Sidewalk Art Show of Converse College and the District Art Award. My best work is a display at District One School Administration Building.
I got the idea of being an artist from my mom and dad because they are both artists in different ways. My dad makes art pieces from antique architectural parts of buildings using iron and stone. My mother is an art teacher at my school.
A few artists I also look up to are van Gogh, da Vinci and Goya. Van Gogh can bring feelings to his work like when he painted the picture of the orchard and made it seem like you need to put on sunglasses to look at it. I like da Vinci because he drew transparent figures very well. I like Goya because he seemed to bring pictures out of the darkness with his use of color. Someday I hope I can become an artist as great as these.
