CAN DO INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS presents Hitching Core Curriculum to the Oregon Trail written by Martha McMillian. Hitching Core Curriculum to the Oregon Trail explores the 2,000-mile journey endured by the immigrants as they traveled from Independence Square in Missouri to Oregon's Willamette Valley.
This booklet/video includes detailed instructions for appropriate activities relating to this trip, and is designed specifically to help K-6 classroom teachers actively involve students with art across the curriculum. There are many projects, including constructing a classroom covered wagon, creating a three-dimensional map of the Oregon Trail, and building an outdoor loom. The video illustrates how a finished project might appear. The booklet contains a guide on how to teach other subjects through art, as well as a reproducible "Curriculum Wheel" and "Themes of the Year" work sheet for curriculum management. For more information, circle No. 394 on the Arts & Activities Reader Service Card.
