Arts & Activities, Dec, 2002 by Barbara Herberholz
Interactive CD-ROM/$39.95. Level: University. Crystal Productions, P.O. Box 2159, Glenview, IL 60025-6159, (800) 255-8629.
Take a virtual-reality tour of this 13th-century Gothic cathedral and explore this famous structure at your leisure without all the crowds of tourists that sometimes make such visits frustrating. You will be able to enjoy close-up views of the labyrinth of the nave pavement, saints' relics and furnishings of the high altar and baptistery, ambulatory chapels, flying buttresses, the medieval roof timbers and the lead-encased spire.
"Hot spots" enable you to move forward or backward, and even rotate 360 degrees. Symbols enable you to choose the west facade, the upper or lower cathedral and the library. You will even hear some medieval chants and sculptures on the west facade that "speak." The CD-ROM was produced by the Media Center for Art History at Columbia University in New York City.
