Young artist

Arts & Activities,  Dec, 2004  by Tony Purnell

My name is Tony Purnell and I love to draw! I am always drawing. I was probably 3 years old when I started. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher would tell me I was a great artist. When she needed something drawn on the blackboard, she would ask me. Everyone used to say, "Tony, you're so good!" Art is my favorite class in school. I wish I had art class every day.

In first grade, I entered a drawing contest. I drew a helicopter and army people, with soldiers holding a flag. It was displayed at the library. That was fun, but I just like to draw at home. Usually it's dinosaurs, but I also like to draw airplanes, birds, dirt bikes and more stuff.

My grandpa draws with me when he visits. He likes to draw cartoons, but I can't draw those very good. For Christmas, I got an easel and art stuff so I could keep drawing. I use pencils the most because if you make a mistake you can just erase and start over. If you use crayon or something like that, you have to start over if you mess up.

When I grow up, I want to be a paleontologist and an artist. I also want to be an art teacher and teach kids how to draw and paint.
