Arts & Activities, Jan, 2002 by Barbara Herberholz

THE ARTS OF ASIA: Posters from the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Set of 5 posters and Resource Book/$44.95. Level: All Grades. Crystal Productions, P.O. Box 2159, Glenview, IL 60025, (800) 255-8629.

These bright and colorful 18" x 24" posters are printed on heavy-duty laminated stock with holes punched in the top comers for easy display. One side of the poster features the artwork, while the other side provides information and activities related to the art. A map of the country is included, as are questions directing students to carefully examine the images, and connect and compare with other artworks. An abundant amount of information is given about each of the artworks. The Resource Book for teachers is excellent with its exciting and student-friendly activities. It also contains additional suggestions for teaching that are not included on the back of the posters: worksheets, creative writing ideas and annotated lists of recommended children's books. The set includes a sculpture of Dancing Ganesha from India; a sculpture of Avalokiteshvar from Cambodia; a painting of Two Hares in Moonlight from Korea; Porcelain with Dragon from China; and a Flowering Plum Kimono from Japan. Don't miss this set.--B.H. For information about this program, circle No. 397 on the Reader Service Card.
