MASTERING THE GLASS BEAD: A Beginner's Guide. Video/40 min./$19.96. Level: High School and Above. Delphi Creativity Group, 3380 East Jolly Road, Lansing, MI 48910-8539, (800) 248-2048, www. delphiglass.com.
If you or your students have ever toyed with the idea of making your own glass beads to fashion into jewelry, you will find this video helpful and easy to follow. Necessary materials are seen on display in artist Karen Stavert's work area.
She proceeds to show viewers in detailed close-ups how to use a self-igniting fireworks torch head safely and efficiently. With a mandrel and bead release, she shows us how to shape a bead before allowing it to cool slowly in a fiber blanket.
After demonstrating the basic process involved in making beads, she proceeds to create a number of embellishments and variations including the use of Goldstone. A brief look at finished items of jewelry concludes this video.--B.H. For information about this program, circle No. 396 on the Reader Service Card.
