Accounting's current popularity may stem from news stories of corporate accounting scandals, which led to new regulations and more jobs. Ira Solomon of the department of accountancy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign said in an interview with AccountingWeb.com. "All the focus on accounting created a perception [among] students that accounting matters and is perhaps even sexy."
