Financier Carl Icahn pledged $400 million to build or buy an airline and link it to his Lowestfare.com. Lowestfare.com lost its supply of discounted Trans World Airline tickets with American Airlines' $740 million buyout of the bankrupt carrier. Icahn, a former TWA chairman, failed to buy TWA and could not block American's bid.
