You Go , Girl - Online - Company Business and Marketing - Brief Article
Industry Standard, The, Sept 11, 2000 by Alex Lash
Sure, there are print magazines about the Internet (including this one). But they mostly cater to an adult audience who didn't grow up with the Net. Kids, however, are an unknown factor. Will they pry themselves away from chat rooms and multiplayer games long enough to -- gasp! -- read a magazine? Especially one about the Internet?
That's what the publishers of Teen, the teenybopper mag that's been around since 1957, will soon find out. In November, GO! (Girls Online) will debut as a 16-page pullout within Teen, which has a circulation of 2.2 million. A second GO! issue is stated for March and quarterly publications thereafter, if there's enough demand.
Although mainly an insert to Teen at this point, GO! will have its own branding and design "inspired by tech mags and cool online sites," says Teen Editor in Chief Tommi Lewis, who adds girls mainly hit the Net for "chats, chats and more chats." For those Net grrls who find paper a little too static, GO! will share an online presence on Teenmag.com and sponsor a Web site-building contest.
