LETTERS - Letter to the Editor
Industry Standard, The, Feb 5, 2001
There are some things technology can change quickly; however, changing the basics of human beings is not one of them. Being in social environments is important to us. When the day comes that your significant other is not disappointed when you download the flick at home instead of going to the movie theater, that's the day Hollywood should be worried.

SO WHAT'S THE GOOD NEWS?
AS A GREAT FAN OF YOUR MAGAZINE AND of the Internet in general, I am writing to complain about the recent inclusion of the "Layoffs" graph in your Metrics section.
Throughout history, industries come and go, and the recent growing pains of the Internet industry are no exception. Wouldn't it be more realistic to have a "Total Employment" or "Unemployment Rate" -- or both -- to truly reflect the health of the growing economy? Instead of wallowing in the gloom of the momentary negative spike in the time line, let's look at the total picture.
Perk up, people! It's only the bottom of the first inning!
