NORDIC BUSINESS REPORT-5 August 2002-Finnish government did not take part in Sonera's 3G bid decisions - report (C)1994-2002 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Finnish ministry of transport and communications presented today (5 August) its report on the decision making process that lead to the telecomms operator Sonera's participation in European 3G (third generation mobile network) licence bids.

According to the report the Finnish government was not involved in the process and was neither for nor against Sonera's active involvement in the bids.

Sonera recently withdrew from its German 3G operations, resulting in the largest single business failure in Finnish corporate history. The EUR4.2bn one-time write-down was activated in the company's last financial report.
